General Policies

Brigands uses a Level System for handlers to come independently to practice herding sheep or ducks. Prior approval is required to herd.

HERDING LEVELS
Level One - Introductory & Classes or Lessons
Level One is the first level for private or small group instruction; individuals are not allowed to practice on their own

a. The instructor/trainer will sort and move the sheep for you to use

b. The instructor/trainer is responsible for the sheep but you begin learning about sheep

c. The instructor/trainer must approve you moving to the next level after showing basic competence with herding and stock handling

Level Two - Beginner or Novice Handler
Level Two is for those with basic stock handling confidence who wants to practice on their own. The dog must stay on leash (or long-line) or can be off-leash with Level 3 or 4 handler within shouting distance (to help if necessary)

a. You have shown basic competence with herding, stock handling, etc.

b. You sign-in and pay Brigands a practice/stock fee when you practice (only daily coupons are available for Level Two)

c. You should be able to recognize signs of stress and exhaustion in sheep and your dog(s), and to take a break when necessary (breaks for dog, handler and stock)

d. Brigands must approve you to move to the next level

Level Three & Four - Independent
Level Three and Four is geared to the handler who is confident with stock handling and is able to move stock independently. This level is for independent practice whenever the facility if not otherwise closed (for herding trials, etc)

LEVEL THREE

a. You sign-in and pay Brigands a practice/stock fee (only daily coupons are available for Level Three but you can pay for 10 at a time which provides a discount)

b. You move your own sheep (from holding or grazing areas for practice and return them to appropriate area when you're done)

LEVEL FOUR

The difference between Level 3 and 4 is that Level 4 has some benefits -

a. You still sign-in but monthly coupons are available only for Level 4 handlers

b. You move your own sheep (from holding or grazing areas for practice and return them to appropriate area when you're done)

c. There are times when practice areas are available only for Level 4
